High Court Judgement - Eligible Cohabiting Partner Survivor's Pensions

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version
A recent High Court judgement has removed the requirement for members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) to nominate their cohabiting partner to receive a survivor’s pension in the event of their death.

Merseyside Pension Fund can pay a survivor’s pension to the eligible cohabiting partner of a former member of the LGPS, who died before 1 April 2014, but did not complete a nomination form prior to their death.

If your cohabiting partner left the LGPS between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2014, died before 1 April 2014, and you have not received a survivor’s pension, you should check here the conditions that need to be met for an eligible cohabiting partner’s survivor’s pension to be paid.

If you have any questions about your eligibility to receive a cohabiting partner’s survivor’s pension if your partner died before 1 April 2014, please contact us on 0151 242 1391.
