Local Pension Board: Vacancy for Employer representative (Education Sector)

A conference tableOn 1 April 2015, Wirral Council created the Local Pension Board to ensure that the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is well managed and representative at a local level.
 
As per the terms of reference of the Board there is an upcoming vacancy for the position of Employer Representative for the Education Sector. We are inviting expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals, who believe they have knowledge of the sector and can act in this role on the Board.
 
Key features of the Local Pension Board (“the Board”) are:
 
  • to play an oversight role on the decision-making function of the Pensions Committee, with the key role in ensuring that the Fund is complying with the LPGS and other relevant regulations
  • that it will be representative and will contain four member representatives, four employer representatives and one non-voting independent Chair
  • for meetings to take place during the day at least four times per year in Liverpool and members of the Board should be willing to undertake induction and training sessions as required
  • for member and employer representatives to receive a modest remuneration along with any travel and subsistence expenses.
 

 
What type of person are we looking for?
 
To qualify as an employer representative, you must be an office holder or senior employee of a Further Education or Higher Education employer participating within Merseyside Pension Fund OR have experience of representing a scheme employer in a similar capacity.
 
For the role we are looking for a person who can demonstrate the criteria, characteristics and skills outlined in the Role/Person Specification at Role/Person Specification.
 
As a Board Member you will be expected to commit to undertake the role for a period of four years.
 
It should be noted that the role will involve reviewing the financial aspects of pension fund management, including investment elements, and it is desirable to appoint a person who can bring an appropriate level of knowledge with them.
