What happens if I die after retiring on pension?

If you die after retiring on pension, your benefits will no longer be payable.

Your spouse, civil partner, eligible cohabiting partner, next-of-kin or person dealing with your Estate must immediately inform the Fund's Welfare Officer on 0151 242 1362 of your date of death as otherwise an overpayment could occur.

The benefits which may be payable on your death are dependant on when you left the LGPS:

  • I left the LGPS before 1 April 2008 [1]

  • I left the LGPS between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2014 [2]

  • I left the LGPS after 31 March 2014 [3]
