Transferring pension rights into the LGPS

You may be able to transfer pension rights into the LGPS if:

  • you have previous LGPS pension rights in England or Wales [1], or
  • you have pension rights in a non-LGPS arrangement [2], or
  • you have pension rights with another public service pension scheme [3], or
  • you have a personal or stakeholder pension plan [4], or
  • you have paid Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) [5]

You cannot transfer a pension credit into the LGPS. A pension credit is a share of an ex-spouse's or ex-civil partner's pension benefits, as awarded by a Court under a Pension Sharing Order, or by a qualifying agreement in Scotland, following a divorce or a dissolution of a civil partnership [6].

How do I request a transfer? [7]

Our pledge to combat pension scams

Merseyside Pension Fund pledges [8] to do what we can to protect scheme members and follow the principles of the Pension Scams Industry Group (PSIG) Code of Good Practice in so far as it applies to LGPS Funds.

Pledging to combat pension scams confirms our intent to protect our members and demonstrates that the Fund are committed to stopping scammers in their tracks.
