WIDOWERS' BENEFITS
If your wife died as an active member of the Scheme, as a deferred member, or while in receipt of her pension, as their surviving widower you will be entitled to a survivor's pension.
However the amount of pension payable depends on whether your late wife died:
- in service
- as a deferred member
- as a pensioner
If your wife died in service
If your late wife died as an active contributing member of the Scheme, you would receive:
![]() Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from 1 April 1972*
x 1/160 = Annual Survivor's Pension
|
|
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died.
|
If your wife died as a Deferred Member
A deferred benefit means that your wife was once a member of LGPS but no longer paid into it when she died and chose to leave her contributions in the Scheme. Provided you were married to your wife whilst she was a member of the Scheme, that is while she worked for a Scheme employer, then you are entitled to:
![]() Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from 1 April 1972*
x 1/160 = Annual Survivor's Pension
|
|
*If you married your wife after she left the Scheme, only her post 5 April 1988 contracted-out membership is used.
|
If your wife died as a Pensioner
If your late wife died in retirement, you would receive:
![]() Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from 1 April 1972*
x 1/160 = Annual Survivor's Pension
|
|
*If you married your wife after retirement, only her post 5 April 1988 contracted-out membership is used.
