HISTORY OF THE FUND

The Merseyside Pension Fund was initially created as a result of the Local Government Act (1972) and centralised the Pensions Administration and investments functions of the existing county boroughs and urban district councils.
It was initially administered by Merseyside County Council (itself created as part of the same Act) from 1 April 1974 until the Council's abolition on 31 March 1986.
From 1 April 1986 until 30 September 1987, the Fund was administered by the transitional Merseyside Residuary Body. From 1 October 1987 to date, the Fund has been administered by Wirral Borough Council. The Fund's members of staff form part of the Finance section.
