EXISTING SCHEME MEMBERS ON 31 MARCH 2008
|
Transferring to the new LGPS from 1 April 2008 |

As part of a general review of public sector pension schemes, the Government introduced changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for employees in England and Wales from
1 April 2008.
If you were already paying into the LGPS on 31 March 2008, you continued to have a contract of employment on 1 April 2008 of 3 MONTHS OR MORE and were under age 75, you were automatically transferred to the new Scheme.
Here are answers to some questions you might have about how you will be affected by the new scheme regulations from 1 April 2008:
- Did all existing members automatically transfer to the new Scheme?
- How much do I pay in the new Scheme?
- When can I retire from the new Scheme?
- How will my benefits be worked out after 1 April 2008?
- What happens if I have to retire early due to ill health?
- What will happen if my employer retires me on grounds of redundancy?
- What if I want to have a gradual move into retirement?
