DID ALL EXISTING MEMBERS TRANSFER OVER TO THE NEW SCHEME ON 1 APRIL 2008?

Almost all existing members of the Scheme on 31 March 2008, transferred over to the new Scheme from 1 April 2008.

From 1 April 2008 however, an active employee is only eligible to be a member of the LGPS if they have a contract of employee of 3 MONTHS OR MORE duration and are under age 75. This excluded some casual employees who previously were members of the Scheme on 31 March 2008.

Casual members where there is, on 31 March 2008 and 1 April 2008, a mutuality of obligation, will remain in the Scheme (regardless of whether or not they actually work on 1 April 2008 and/or 31 March 2008).

Casual members where there is a mutuality of obligation on 31 March 2008, but not on 1 April 2008, WILL NOT remain in the Scheme on 1 April 2008.

Casual members where there is no mutuality of obligation and who were not offered, or were offered but did not accept, work on 31 March 2008, WILL NOT be members of the Scheme on 1 April 2008.

Casual members where there is no mutuality of obligation but who are offered and accept work on 31 March 2008 will remain in the Scheme only for so long as there is no break in service.

Please Note
A 'mutuality of obligation' is defined as the position where if an employer has to offer work, the employee has to accept it. If this is NOT the case, Scheme membership will not be available.
