THE DEATH GRANT PAYABLE FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF AN ACTIVE MEMBER IN SERVICE

If your late spouse, registered civil partner or nominated cohabiting partner died in service, a lump sum death grant is payable irrespective of the length of their membership. The death grant payable would be depend on whether the deceased died BEFORE OR AFTER 1 APRIL 2008.
 

 
Deceased died in service before 1 April 2008
 
If the deceased died in service before 1 April 2008, the following death grant would be payable:
 
 
 
Deceased's Final Pay* x 2
= Total Death Grant

 *This will be two times career average pay for Councillors. For part-time employees, ACTUAL PAY in part-time employment is used and NOT the whole-time equivalent value.

 
 
Deceased died in service on or after 1 April 2008
 
If the deceased died in service on or after 1 April 2008, the following death grant would be payable:
 
 
 
Deceased's Final Pay* x 3
= Total Death Grant
