CHILDREN'S PENSIONS
Eligibility
Children's pensions are payable to the surviving parent or legal guardian for a maximum of 2 children until they reach at least 18 years of age. Children who are eligible can be legitimate, illegitimate or adopted, or any child accepted as a member of the family and dependent on the member whilst he/she was a contributor to the Scheme.
Special consideration is given to children in the care of both a surviving parent and a guardian where a dependent child of any age is physically or mentally disabled, and has been since before age 18, pensions are payable as long as the disability continues.
Pensions can be paid to children of 18 or over whilst they are receiving full time education or on an approved training course of at least 2 years duration.
The amount of benefit payable to an eligible child can be affected by any earnings received over a certain level whilst on an approved training course.
