BENEFITS FOR NOMINATED COHABITING PARTNERS
If your nominated cohabiting partner died as an active member of the LGPS in service, as a deferred member, or while in receipt of their pension, as their surviving nominated cohabiting partner you will be entitled to a survivor's pension if certain qualifying conditions are met.
However the amount of pension payable depends on whether your late nominated cohabiting partner died:
- in service
- as a deferred member
- as a pensioner
|
PLEASE NOTE:
A pension for your nominated cohabiting partner is only payable if the Fund receives a valid nomination form and if all qualifying conditions are met.
|
If your nominated cohabiting partner died in service on or after
1 April 2008
If an active member died in service on or after 1 April 2008, a surviving nominated cohabiting partner would receive:
![]() Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from
6 April 1988* x 1/160
= Annual Survivor's Pension

|
*This is the total membership the deceased would have had if they had retired on Tier 1 ill-health grounds on the day they died.
|
If your nominated cohabiting partner died after leaving the Scheme with deferred benefits on or after 1 April 2008
A deferred benefit means that your nominated cohabiting partner was once a member of LGPS but no longer paid into it when they died and chose to leave their contributions in the Scheme. Provided a valid nomination was made with all qualifying conditions met either before or since your nominated cohabiting partner left the Scheme on or after 1 April 2008, you will be entitled to:
![]() Deceased's Final Pay x Total Membership from
6 April 1988 x 1/160
