ADMISSION BODIES
Other organisations may also be entitled to participate in the Scheme provided they meet certain conditions. Such employers are known as Admission Bodies. Each admission agreement states whether all or only some employees may join the Scheme.
Admission bodies fall into two types:
- community admission bodies
- transferee admission bodies
Community admission bodies are those bodies having a community of interest with local government employers (citizens advice bureaux for example). Transferee admission bodies are companies that have taken on work on behalf of local authorities (e.g. on outsourcing a service).
If you work for a participating admission body you will NOT be automatically brought into the LGPS. If you have a contract of employment of 3 MONTHS OR MORE and are under age 75, you must write to your employer if you wish to join the Scheme.
If you were an employee with an initial contract of LESS THAN 3 MONTHS but receive an extension beyond 3 months, you should be given the option to join from the date of your contract extension. However, you will not be able to backdate your entry into the LGPS.
